$350 per hour, billed in 1/10 hour increments.
If I only do 6 minutes of work, you only get billed for 6 minutes.
I use times built into my client management software so that accuracy is maintained.
No guessing. Honest billing. Full stop.

On occasion I bill at a reduced hourly rate of $175 / hour, if the work would traditionally be done by a paralegal. For example, compiling a List of Documents.
If a larger firm would have a paralegal do this necessary work, I wlll perform it myself but at a reduced rate to you. You get the benefit of a lawyer doing the work, without being penalized by a higher price point. Win-win.

Some tasks are more routine and can be performed on a flat-rate basis.
The most popular are:
Uncontested desk-order divorces - $2,250 + tax
Cohabitation / Marriage agreements - $2,500 + tax
Independent Legal Advice - $750 - $1,250 + tax
Flat-fee rates depend upon length and complexity of the documents. They are only applicable in select cases.
-
I aim to bill clients on a monthly basis. Using standard retainers, with top-ups as required, bills do not get out of hand. Less surprises translate to happier clients.
-
All new cases require an initial retainer deposit, which will be held in trust and applied towards future billings.
When your matter is finished, any unused amounts will be returned to the client.
If the retainer (deposit) runs out while the case is still ongoing, we will request a top-up.

I do contract with Legal Aid and actively take on clients when my work load allows for it.
Please contact Legal Aid BC to see if you qualify for their funding - it is largely based on your monthly household income, and the type of legal work you require.
If you do qualify and are approved by Legal Aid BC, please contact me for a consultation and we can see if we are a good match.
